RV Trip - Hawthorne to Home

Our early departure from Winnemucca meant an early arrival at Whiskey Flats RV Park in Hawthorne, Nevada. The park is new so the trees are small and shade is at a minimum.
Am I complaining, No not really. If this were the first RV Park on our trip I would be enthusiastically writing about it. The truth is I am ready to be home. This will be our last night on the road and frankly, I am looking forward to sharing the king-sized bed with Bob while the dogs happily curl up in their little bedroom pen.
We were here before noon, so it gave me time to walk the dogs and fix a frozen Lasagne for our lunch. Then we spent the afternoon on our computers. I have been working on the photos of Dawn and Jade. I think I will make a little memory book of our visit with them.
Dinner was fruit smoothies and then we watched the changing sky as the sun began to set and the dark clouds formed. No rain, but it was close by and the wind brought rain smells and coolness.
Up before six to walk the dogs. I was a reluctant meal for a dozen mosquitos before the canine’s desire to sniff new places was relinquished, their morning duties completed, and their stomachs reminded them that breakfast was back at the Pulse.
Thank goodness for liquid Benadryl which stopped those bites from itching almost immediately. Now I have only large welts on my arms and legs to remind me of the litte Dracula-like demons.
We filled the RV tank with diesal before leaving Hawthorne. This was a prudent idea because from there to Bishop, California gas stations were few and far between.. . just miles and miles of High Desert roads whose boring straightness was interrupted occasionaly by road maintenace crews and stopped traffic.
As we turned onto our familiar 395 and headed south toward home, we were amazed at the number of cars on the road. Then we remembered that this was the 4th of July week-end and everyone and their cousins were on the road.
Finally, we left the highway, made a few short turns and were home. The dogs were elated to have the backyard to run and play in and Sammi set up a Doxie bark that let the whole neighborhood know she was back to rule the roost.
So we are home, tired but grateful for a safe trip. I have started the laundry and unloaded the RV refrigerator. It is not noon yet, but the temperature is 106 degrees. Thank goodness for air-conditioning, both the house and the RV are comfortable and makes the walk between the two tolerable.
One of the first things Bob did was to head to the store to buy flowers for my new antique vase. It was lovingly placed in the middle of my dining room table and as I cut and arranged the bouguet, I thought of the previous owner or owners since it is quite old. Did they love its simply beauty as much as I do? Were the flowers from a well-tended garden or maybe from a Farmers Market. What were their thoughts as they arranged the blooms. Was the vase a gift. . . maybe a wedding gift and one that brought fond memories of the gift bearer? Was there a loving husband like my Bob, who brought flowers and did those flowers warm hearts the way these do mine?
So many questions that will never be answered.
When I look at the vase, I will think of Dawn and Jade on their quest for the perfect Mothers Day gift. I will smile and honor all of the former owners, and whisper a prayer in their memories.
But for now, the realities of folding clothes, cleaning a motorhome, and preparing lunch set in and I must finish this post and get busy again.

July 7, 2009 @ 10:45 amThe vase looks beautiful with those lovely flowers.
It must make you smile every time you walk past that lovely bouquet in your beautiful. Happy you made it home safe!
July 7, 2009 @ 1:37 pmNice flowers and vase, but I especially love the cloth beneath them.
July 8, 2009 @ 8:46 amI love the tablecloth, too. It looks very much like it is hand-embroidered, but it is not. What I do remember is all those that my mother spent so many hours working on and that are now lost to those in her family who would love to have them on their tables.
